King Charles III and Prince William are said to be at odds once again, as father and son reportedly hold sharply different views over how to handle the fallout surrounding the Duke of York and its impact on the wider family.
Earlier this year, the King took a decisive and highly symbolic step against his disgraced brother, Prince Andrew, formally severing his remaining royal ties following the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and long-standing allegations that have continued to damage the monarchy’s reputation.
Behind the scenes, Prince William was understood to have fully supported his father’s hard line on Andrew. Sources have previously claimed that both men were aligned in their belief that Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, should not be punished for their father’s actions.

However, according to Hollywood and royal insider Rob Shuter, tensions resurfaced around Christmas, despite outward appearances of unity. Writing on his Substack, Shuter cited multiple sources claiming that the Prince of Wales privately urged the King to reconsider inviting the York sisters to Sandringham, warning that the timing could reignite controversy.
“William said it was a disaster waiting to happen,” one court insider told Shuter. “He argued the timing was toxic and that it would hurt everyone involved, especially the sisters.”
The source suggested William’s concern stemmed from a desire to protect his cousins from renewed public scrutiny, believing that their presence during a high-profile family gathering would inevitably draw attention back to their father and the Epstein scandal.
Despite those warnings, the King reportedly pressed ahead with his own judgment, a move that appears to have struck a nerve. According to courtiers, the disagreement quickly became less about the York sisters and more about authority within the royal hierarchy.
“Charles doesn’t like being told what not to do,” another insider said. “This quickly became about authority. He made the call even knowing William objected.”

Previous reports have suggested that the King is sensitive to claims that his heir is already exerting undue influence behind the scenes. Charles is said to bristle at any suggestion that William is “pulling the strings” before formally ascending the throne.
Sources close to the palace say the monarch is determined to assert that decisions rest firmly with him. While the disagreement is not believed to signal a lasting rupture, insiders claim it reflects deeper tensions as the monarchy navigates scandal, public perception and the delicate transition from one reign to the next.
For now, the issue has highlighted how even shared goals can expose fault lines between a King keen to assert his authority and a Prince of Wales increasingly willing to voice his own views.
