Julia Roberts Says Watching George Clooney Become a Dad Has Been “So Special”

Julia Roberts is loving every minute of watching her longtime friend George Clooney embrace fatherhood, and she is not shy about saying so.

In a recent interview with Variety, the 58-year-old actress reflected on Clooney’s life as a dad to his eight-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, whom he shares with his wife, Amal Clooney. Roberts said seeing Clooney in this phase of his life has been deeply meaningful to her.

“This chapter of George’s life fills me with so much joy,” Roberts said during the conversation, which accompanied Variety’s profile of Clooney’s upcoming film Jay Kelly.

She reserved particular praise for Amal, describing her as a perfect partner for the actor and a grounding presence in his life. “Amal is an absolute rock star. I could never conjure up a dream girl like this for George, and to watch him with his kids is so special,” Roberts added.

Roberts and Clooney have shared a close friendship for decades, forged through multiple film collaborations and years of public appearances together. Her comments suggest that, beyond the Hollywood spotlight, she has had a front-row seat to one of the most personal transformations in Clooney’s life.

Clooney himself has recently opened up about parenting and his relationship with his twins, acknowledging both the joys and the realities of raising kids who are quickly growing up. Speaking earlier this month on the New Heights podcast, Clooney joked that, for now, his children still think he is pretty cool.

“My kids still dig me,” he said, before quickly adding a note of realism. “But that’s gonna change, as you know.” Podcast cohost Jason Kelce didn’t miss the opening to chime in, joking that the teenage years are right around the corner. Clooney agreed, sharing that the early signs are already there.

“It’s coming, man. And I’m telling you, dude, it’s like, even at [8 years old], I’ve got, like, my daughter rolling her eyes now, which is a new thing,” Clooney said. “Like, I’d say, like, ‘Hey, you know, your dad’s a big star,’ and she just rolls her eyes.” The moment, Clooney suggested, was both humbling and hilarious, a reminder that fame carries very little weight at home.

Between Roberts’ affectionate praise and Clooney’s self-aware humor, the picture that emerges is one of a movie star fully immersed in family life, navigating parenthood with the same mix of warmth and honesty that has long defined his friendships.
