Pregnant Georgia Woman Killed in DUI Crash After Mother’s Vehicle Is Struck

A Georgia family is grieving the sudden loss of 19-year-old Jaylah Donald, a young woman they describe as joyful, loving, and always smiling. Jaylah, who lived in Atlanta, was seven months pregnant with a baby boy when she was killed in a crash on Thanksgiving night.

Her grandmother, Genette Anderson, said the family had gathered for the holiday and were ending the evening when tragedy struck. Jaylah’s mother had agreed to drive a neighbor home to a house just down Fairview Road in Covington. Jaylah sat in the passenger seat as they prepared to leave.

According to troopers, another driver slammed into their vehicle on the passenger side as Jaylah’s mother backed out. Jaylah died at the scene. Her mother was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with life-threatening injuries.

As of Friday night, Anderson said her daughter remains on a ventilator, and the family does not yet know whether she will survive. “Just keep our family in your prayers,” she said.

The heartbreak has left relatives reeling, as they now mourn both Jaylah and her unborn son. Loved ones say Jaylah radiated warmth and could brighten any room. “Very caring, loving, always smiled. Her smile would make you just smile,” said her godmother, Nekeshia Johnson.

Other family members shared memories of Jaylah’s childhood, recalling her infectious grin. “Definitely going to miss that smile,” one relative said. “Oh my God, she smiled so much when she was little. She won best smile in her day care. That girl used to smile so much.”

As they wait for updates on Jaylah’s mother, the family is relying heavily on prayer and support from friends and the wider community. “We’re gonna miss Jaylah,” Anderson said.

A fundraiser has been created to help cover funeral expenses for the young woman, whose life was cut short just as she was preparing to become a mother for the first time.

The Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver who struck the vehicle, but charges are expected once the investigation is completed.
