Critic Says Harry and Meghan ‘Can’t Be Trusted’ and Aim to Be an Alternative Royal Family

The royal family has been cautioned about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following Harry’s recent reunion with King Charles in London. Royal commentator Richard Eden delivered the warning during an appearance on Palace Confidential, describing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as “bad” for the monarchy. His criticism came just days after Harry’s brief trip to the UK, during which he combined public charity appearances with a visit to his father, who is battling cancer.

Eden suggested that Harry and Meghan are actively positioning themselves as rivals to the existing royal establishment. “I can obviously understand the father wanting to meet the son, who wouldn’t? The problem is, he’s not just a father, he’s our head of state,” Eden said. “I think Harry and Meghan are bad for the Royal Family.”

The commentator accused the couple of exploiting their royal ties for personal gain and undermining the work of other senior royals. “I think Harry and Meghan are bad news. We’ve seen time and time again that they can’t be trusted, they exploit their royal connections, and I don’t think it’s being paranoid to say that they want to be the alternative Royal Family.”

Eden also claimed Harry appeared to be competing with the Prince and Princess of Wales during his visit. “This week was full of engagements for William and Catherine, and Harry has been competing with that,” he said.

Harry and Meghan have faced ongoing scrutiny since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California. While they have pursued independent projects, including a Netflix deal and charitable initiatives, critics argue they continue to trade on their royal status while publicly criticizing the institution they left behind.

The Duke of Sussex’s return to the UK drew significant public attention, particularly given King Charles’s illness. Supporters highlighted Harry’s charity engagements as evidence of his continuing commitment to public service, while detractors echoed Eden’s view that his activities risk overshadowing the work of Prince William and Princess Catherine.

The royal family has not commented on Eden’s remarks, but the criticism adds to the ongoing debate about Harry and Meghan’s role on the global stage and their continued connection to the monarchy. For some, the couple represents a modern, independent version of royalty.

For others, they embody division and distraction at a time when the institution faces challenges at home and abroad. Eden’s stark warning underscores the tension between tradition and reinvention—an ongoing struggle for a monarchy balancing its centuries-old role with the demands of a fast-changing world.
