A Lorton man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend in Fairfax County late Tuesday night. Authorities said officers responded to Mount Vernon Hospital at approximately 11:35 p.m. after Alison “Kate” LaPorta, 38, of Lorton, was brought in by her boyfriend, 47-year-old Huy Tien Nguyen.
LaPorta had sustained a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was later transferred to Fairfax Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Nguyen initially told police the shooting had occurred in a parking lot. However, detectives determined through their investigation that his statement was false.
Evidence showed that the shooting took place inside a vehicle before Nguyen drove LaPorta to the hospital. Detectives later located the firearm near Nguyen’s residence in Lorton. Following the discovery, Nguyen was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
