Cody Simpson has finally opened up about his decision to leave Hollywood and return to his home country, revealing that it was all in pursuit of a lifelong dream. Taking to his X account on July 27, the Pretty Brown Eyes singer responded to fans who had been wondering about his sudden disappearance from the spotlight.
“I disappeared to grind my a– off for years & achieve my childhood dream of making the Australian swim team,” Simpson wrote, putting to rest years of speculation. The 27-year-old musician also shared several clips of his rigorous training, including footage of him swimming laps, lifting weights in the gym, and showcasing his athletic transformation.
Simpson, who first gained fame as a pop artist with hits like IYiYi and La Da Dee, shocked fans when he stepped away from the music scene. Known for his smooth vocals and charming on-stage persona, Cody had also become a staple in the celebrity gossip columns, especially during his high-profile relationship with singer Miley Cyrus.
The couple dated for less than a year before calling it quits in August 2020. “It was kind of a mutual decision between us, knowing that we were sort of going in different directions in our lives,” Simpson shared during an earlier interview on The Kyle & Jackie O Show.
“I had just started training at that point, so my life was changing a lot and I knew I was going to have to eventually move back to Australia to do it properly and professionally,” he added.
Simpson’s transition from pop star to competitive swimmer came as a surprise to many, but it was far from a spur-of-the-moment decision. He has long spoken about his passion for swimming and even competed at a national level as a child before his music career took off.
Now, years after leaving the spotlight of Los Angeles, Simpson has established himself as a serious contender in the swimming world. He has competed in national championships and even secured a spot on the Australian national team.
Fans and fellow athletes alike have praised Simpson’s dedication and perseverance, admiring the way he traded fame for personal fulfillment. While he hasn’t ruled out a return to music someday, it’s clear that for now, Cody Simpson is focused on chasing gold, not record sales.
As he continues to train and compete, one thing is certain: Cody’s story is no longer just about chart-topping hits, but about chasing dreams — in and out of the pool.
