A peaceful family hike in Devil’s Den State Park ended in tragedy Saturday, as Arkansas State Police confirmed that a couple was found dead on a trail in what is now being investigated as a double homicide. Authorities identified the victims as Clinton David Brink, 43, and his wife, Cristen Amanda Brink, 41.
Their two daughters, aged 7 and 9, were unharmed and are now in the care of relatives, officials reported. “At about 2:40 p.m., Arkansas State Police (ASP) was notified of a double homicide at the park, located in Washington County. Mr. and Mrs. Brink were found dead on a walking trail. ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is handling the suspected homicide,” stated the Arkansas Department of Public Safety on its website.
Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect described as a white male with a medium build. According to witnesses, he was wearing a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, dark pants, a dark ball cap, sunglasses, and fingerless gloves. He was carrying a black backpack and was last seen driving toward a park exit in a black, four-door sedan, possibly a Mazda, with its license plate obscured by electrical or duct tape.
The vehicle may have traveled on State Highway 170 or 220 near the park. The Brinks had recently relocated to Prairie Grove, Arkansas, from out of state, police noted. “I want to thank the public and our media partners for their support as we pursue the man responsible for this heinous crime,” said ASP Colonel Mike Hagar.
“We are using all available resources to apprehend this suspect and bring him to justice.” The family of the victims released a statement to ABC News, mourning their devastating loss. “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult time as they grieve and learn how to navigate this new reality.
They ask that if anyone has any information at all that will help in the investigation, please contact the proper authorities immediately.” “Clinton and Cristen died heroes protecting their little girls, and they deserve justice. They will forever live on in all of our hearts,” the statement continued.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders also addressed the tragedy on social media. “We are heartbroken by today’s horrific news from Devil’s Den State Park and are in close contact with State Police and the Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism as they work to apprehend the suspect,” she wrote on X. “We are praying for the family and friends of the victims, and know that law enforcement will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice.”
