Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s financial situation is reportedly more precarious than previously believed, with mounting costs and pressure from contract obligations said to be straining their marriage. According to royal insiders speaking to New Idea, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are struggling to maintain the high cost of their lifestyle, including a “sizeable mortgage” on their Montecito mansion and millions spent annually on private security.
“Their financial worries are far worse than first thought,” the source claimed, adding that members of their staff are also growing increasingly concerned about the couple’s direction and spending. A major source of pressure is their $150 million deal with Netflix, which reportedly requires the couple to deliver another documentary series and a romantic comedy.
According to the insider, “The sums aren’t adding up and it’s putting a lot of pressure on their already fragile marriage.” While Harry and Meghan have enjoyed lucrative deals since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, including partnerships with Spotify and Penguin Random House, their recent projects have drawn mixed reviews and faced speculation over long-term viability.

The end of their Spotify deal last year added further uncertainty to their future earnings. The New Idea, citing Radar Online, also reports that Prince Harry is planning another solo trip to the UK, leaving Meghan behind. The trip is said to be both a personal and strategic effort—an attempt to reconcile with King Charles III and rekindle ties with the royal family.
“Harry’s genuine when he says he’s homesick, but no one’s kidding themselves, certainly not the royals,” said one insider. “Even from across the pond, they can see Harry and Meghan are having problems, and Charles has made it clear he’s not anyone’s piggy bank.”

Tensions between the couple and the royal family have remained high since their public exit from royal duties and the release of Harry’s memoir Spare, which further complicated relationships with his father and brother. One source offered a particularly grim outlook, saying, “The scary thought is Harry stands to inherit game-changing money from the King when he dies, but the fear is it will vanish into another one of Meghan’s projects.”
While neither Harry nor Meghan has publicly addressed the current rumors about their finances or marriage, reports suggest that both public and private pressures continue to weigh heavily on the Sussexes as they navigate life beyond the royal spotlight.
