Prince Harry is once again being urged to repair ties with the Royal Family, with experts saying reconciliation is the only way he could ever reclaim his position within the Firm. Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe told OK! that any chance of Harry returning to his royal role would depend on rebuilding trust behind the scenes.
“It would have to be done in absolute privacy, behind closed doors, because there’s simply been too much played out in public, and that has to end if anything is to be repaired,” Larcombe explained. The expert stressed that unity is essential for the monarchy’s future.
“The royal family needs to be united. They need to be seen as kind of figureheads of British society, and a division is not good whatsoever. King Charles will make his own decisions, and William would not be able to tell the King what to do,” he added.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020, relocating to California with their son, Prince Archie. The move was followed by a series of explosive interviews, including the Oprah Winfrey special, where the couple accused the Royal Family of racism and revealed strained relationships with both King Charles and Prince William.
Since then, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have carved out new lives in the United States, where they welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet. But the fallout from their public criticisms continues to cast a long shadow over their relationship with the Windsors.
Larcombe believes that for any meaningful reconciliation to happen, Harry would need to initiate discussions away from public scrutiny. The royal biographer emphasized that King Charles alone has the authority to decide whether his youngest son could regain a role in the family’s public life, regardless of William’s personal feelings about the feud.

With Harry’s memoir Spare and the couple’s Netflix docuseries further fueling tensions, the path back to acceptance within the monarchy seems complicated. Still, Larcombe insists a united royal family is in the best interest of the Crown, and Harry’s return—if handled privately—remains possible.
For now, Harry and Meghan remain in California, balancing their public projects with raising their young children, while speculation about their future within the monarchy continues.
