Late on a Friday night, President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden finally confirmed the existence of their seventh grandchild in a statement given to People Magazine. This recognition comes four years after the child was born and had never been mentioned by the first family.

The delay has sparked criticism, with some alleging that adverse public opinion on Biden’s seemingly neglectful grandparenting could have played a part. Now, the question arises: is this belated acknowledgment a reason for applause?

The Bidens claim that they were biding their time for the right moment and to protect the young girl’s privacy. However, these reasons have been largely dismissed as unfounded. An alternative explanation suggested by CNN implies that they waited for a resolution to a dispute over child support.

Parallel to the Bidens’ delay, Hunter Biden, the child’s father, waited until DNA tests confirmed his paternity before he began contributing to child support. His attempts to evade responsibility have not gone unnoticed.

The public controversy grew when Maureen Dowd, a known “MAGA Republican”, penned a New York Times column, castigating Biden for being untruthful about the number of his grandchildren. This article is perceived to have triggered the eventual acknowledgment.

Critics argue that if the legal proceedings were indeed a concern, the Bidens could have affirmed the child’s existence following the positive DNA results. The purported excuse of a child support dispute is primarily seen as implausible.
