Senator JD Vance has offered a rare glimpse into the nighttime routine of President Donald Trump, revealing just how little rest the 79-year-old reportedly gets. Speaking to Fox News on Saturday, Vance described the president as someone who “doesn’t have an off switch.”
“One thing I’ve learned from working with him every day is that he doesn’t have an off switch,” Vance said. He added that Trump’s late-night communications can be relentless: “Sometimes the president will call you at 12:30 or 2:00 in the morning, and then he’ll call you at 6:00 in the morning about a totally different topic. It’s like, ‘Mr. President, did you go to sleep last night?”
At an age when most people prioritize sleep, studies indicate that chronic sleep deprivation can have pronounced effects on both cognitive function and physical health. Yet Trump appears to thrive on very little rest, using the small hours to engage in prolific activity, particularly on social media.

Recently, the president has been highly active on his Truth Social platform, often posting late at night in ways that some describe as provocative or erratic. This past Monday, Trump posted a series of messages attempting to reassure supporters about his health, claiming he has “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE.” These posts followed a four-day absence from public view that had fueled speculation about his health, and in some cases, even rumors of his death.
Public appearances in recent weeks had drawn attention to the president’s physical condition, including swollen calves, bruised hands, and difficulty walking. White House physicians attributed his swollen ankles to chronic venous insufficiency, a condition common among older adults in which veins struggle to return blood to the heart. Bruising on his hands was reportedly linked to frequent handshakes and aspirin use to mitigate heart disease risk.

Even outside the late-night hours, Trump’s social media activity remains notable. On Saturday, before 5:30 p.m., he posted an AI-generated image of himself as a character from Apocalypse Now while issuing a threat to “declare war” on Chicago, demonstrating that his unusual energy extends well beyond midnight.
Vance’s remarks provide a glimpse into the relentless pace of Trump’s daily life and his unconventional approach to rest and work, highlighting both the intensity and unpredictability that have become hallmarks of the president’s routine.
