Sydney Sweeney is setting the record straight about long-running speculation over her appearance. In a new interview with Allure, the 28-year-old actress said she has “never” undergone cosmetic procedures and dismissed the rumors circulating online.
“Let’s debunk them all. I mean, I have never gotten work done,” Sydney said. “I am so scared of needles, you have no idea.” She emphasised that her fear alone would stop her from even considering it. “I am too scared of needles,” she continued. “I just, you guys, you cannot compare a photo of me from when I was 12 to a photo of me at 26 with professional make-up and lighting.”
She pointed out that growing up, working with glam teams and being photographed under studio lighting naturally changes how someone looks over time. “Of course, I’m gonna look different! Everybody on social media is insane!” she said. Sydney added that if she had done cosmetic work, it would be obvious. “Also, if I did, you guys, my face would be even.”
Her comments come on the heels of another recent controversy. Last month, Sydney faced backlash over an American Eagle advertisement that some critics claimed promoted Nazi-like eugenics. The online uproar grew quickly, but the actress chose not to engage publicly with the criticism.
Speaking to GQ about the situation, she remained unfazed. “When I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear,” she said. Sydney explained that she wasn’t bothered by the accusations because she knew the intent behind the campaign. “I know at the end of the day what that ad was for, and it was great jeans, so it didn’t affect me one way or the other,” she added.
Between starring roles in hit projects like Euphoria, Anyone But You, and Immaculate, Sweeney has become one of Hollywood’s most talked-about young actresses. Increased visibility has also brought intense scrutiny, particularly on social media, where her appearance is often dissected by fans and critics alike.
Her latest interview seems aimed at clearing away some of the noise. Sydney’s message is straightforward: the changes people think they see are simply the difference between childhood photos and polished professional shoots—not the result of surgery.
By addressing the rumours head-on, Sweeney made clear she is neither bothered nor influenced by online commentary. And while she may be “scared of needles,” she appears unfazed by criticism, choosing instead to focus on her work and keep her perspective grounded.
