Wisconsin mother of four and cancer survivor killed by impaired driver while crossing street

A family on Milwaukee’s north side is mourning the loss of a mother of four after a driver allegedly operating while impaired struck and killed her as she crossed the street just blocks from her home. The fatal crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 26, near the intersection of Fond du Lac Avenue and Townsend Street.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, a 48-year-old woman was crossing the street when she was hit by an eastbound vehicle. Police said the victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. Family members identified her as Robin Dieringer. Authorities confirmed that the driver involved was arrested at the scene and is suspected of operating while impaired.

Criminal charges are expected to be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for review. Dieringer’s family said the crash occurred just a block from her home, making the loss even more devastating. Her daughter, Jasmine Dieringer, said her mother was doing nothing out of the ordinary when she was struck.

“She wasn’t doing anything wrong; she was just crossing the street,” Jasmine said. “I told her I loved her a million times over just the day before.” Jasmine and her three siblings are now grappling with the sudden loss. She described her mother as a loving, resilient woman who survived breast cancer and remained a source of strength for her family, WITI reports.

“She was loved, she was loving, and she was strong and resilient,” she said. Surveillance video obtained by FOX6 News shows Robin Dieringer crossing the street moments before a vehicle appears to speed toward her. The footage has been difficult for the family to watch, but Jasmine said it reinforces their belief that the crash was preventable.

As the investigation continues, Jasmine said her family wants accountability and hopes others will learn from what happened. She urged drivers to think carefully before getting behind the wheel. “Just because of somebody’s poor choice, you know, that one poor choice, like all the people that are gonna be affected,” she said.

“Just slow down and think before you get behind the wheel, because I’m out of people that it affects. It’s just crazy.” Police have not yet released further details about the driver or potential charges, pending review by prosecutors. Meanwhile, Dieringer’s family is focused on honoring her memory and raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.

For those who knew her, Robin Dieringer will be remembered not for the tragic circumstances of her death but for her strength, love, and devotion to her children.
