“She Denied Drinking”: Florida Woman Crashes Into School Bus With 11-Year-Old Daughter in Passenger Seat

A Coconut Creek woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly crashing her car into a Palm Beach County school bus while driving under the influence with her 11-year-old daughter in the passenger seat. The collision happened just after 5 p.m. on September 5 at the intersection of Citrus Park Boulevard and Lawrence Road, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department.

Witnesses reported seeing a white Lexus weaving through lanes before suddenly veering into the path of a southbound school bus. The crash caused damage to both vehicles, though the bus driver, who was the only person on board, was not hurt.

Police identified the driver as 38-year-old Megan Lee Champion. Officers noted in their report that Champion appeared lethargic and disoriented. They described her pupils as constricted, her eyes glassy, and her speech slurred. When asked to step out of the vehicle, she reportedly stumbled and had difficulty maintaining balance.

At the scene, Champion denied having consumed alcohol but refused to perform field sobriety exercises. According to officers, she became increasingly agitated, yelling at them and even attempting to bite one during the arrest.

Police transported Champion to a DUI testing facility, but she refused both breath and urine tests. She also declined to sign her citation for the charges she faced.

Champion was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of DUI involving property damage, DUI with a minor in the vehicle, and willfully refusing to sign and accept a traffic summons.

No injuries were reported in the crash, but the presence of her daughter in the front passenger seat has drawn sharp criticism. The case underscores the dangers of impaired driving, particularly when children are involved.

The Boynton Beach Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing.
