A Florida man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting his girlfriend’s co-worker inside her Maitland apartment on Thanksgiving Day. According to the Maitland Police Department, 31-year-old Jon Christopher Fuller is accused of killing 28-year-old Cameron Hoilette in a sudden and violent confrontation.
Police say the shooting happened around 12:15 p.m. at an apartment on Summit Centre Way. Officers arrived to find Hoilette lying on the bedroom floor with life-threatening injuries. They immediately began CPR until Maitland Fire Rescue took over, but Hoilette was pronounced dead about 15 minutes later.
According to investigators, Fuller’s girlfriend, Nila Lindsey, told detectives she had been redoing her co-worker’s hair when Fuller unexpectedly arrived at her door. An argument broke out, and Hoilette attempted to defuse the situation, according to NBC affiliate WESH.
Police records quote the victim as saying that “if there was a problem, he would just leave, and that he only came to get his hair braided.” Moments later, the report says, Fuller pulled out a gun and shot Hoilette in the face without warning.
After the shooting, Fuller reportedly urged Lindsey to leave with him. When she refused, he told her he was going back home. Fuller was later detained by the Orange County fugitive unit on West Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park.
The arrest report reveals that Fuller and Lindsey had been in a relationship for roughly a year and a half. Lindsey had recently moved from West Palm Beach, and Fuller had talked about finding work closer to her. But the distance had fueled growing tension.
Lindsey told detectives that Fuller had begun accusing her of cheating, and he called the day before Thanksgiving, saying he missed her and wanted to visit. She told him not to come because she had plans and was busy — but Fuller showed up anyway.
Court documents show that Fuller has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. He remains in the Orange County Jail without bond as the investigation continues.
