Oklahoma Man Allegedly Strangles Wife to Death After She Calls Him ‘Pathetic’ and Seeks Divorce

Clifton Hampton has been formally charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Christina Hampton, following a disturbing series of events that have shaken the Chelsea, Oklahoma, community. According to court documents, the incident occurred on October 2.

Hampton reportedly took his wife to an emergency room in Vinita, where witnesses said she arrived “wrapped in a mattress pad and transported to the emergency room without any 911 calls having been placed.” Witnesses described Christina as wearing only a T-shirt and underwear, while Hampton had visible injuries on his throat.

Investigators said Christina’s body showed drag marks, suggesting she had been moved before arriving at the hospital. Court filings reveal that Hampton contacted law enforcement and admitted to killing his wife. Initially, he gave officers false information about what had happened, but later confessed to choking Christina during an argument, according to News 9 KJRH.

According to his statement, the couple had been fighting that night when Christina allegedly called him “pathetic” and told him her friends had been mocking him. Hampton told police he felt “humiliated and angry” and admitted to choking her while she was in bed to “shut her up.”

He claimed that Christina still had a heartbeat when he took her to the hospital and said he realized he had taken things “too far.” Investigators said the drag marks on her body came from Hampton dragging her out of his car after arriving at the hospital.

Hampton was booked into the Rogers County Jail and is facing one count of first-degree murder. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing. The tragedy has deeply affected the small community of Chelsea, where Christina was a familiar and beloved figure.

She volunteered regularly with Chelsea Public Schools, and district officials quickly responded to the news of her death. On October 2, the school district announced the cancellation of its upcoming varsity football game against Adair in a Facebook post.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of our varsity football game with Adair on Friday, October 3, 2025. Tragedy has struck close to the Green Dragon Family, and in honor and support of our players and their families, we believe this is in the best interest of all involved,” the statement read.

A candlelight vigil in honor of Christina Hampton was held on October 5 at the Chelsea High School football stadium. Funeral services are scheduled for October 10 at 11 a.m. in the Chelsea High School gymnasium, where family, friends, and community members are expected to gather to remember her life and legacy.
