Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be heading into serious personal and financial turbulence as their multi-million dollar Netflix deal approaches its expiration date this September. And according to some royal watchers, the fallout might go beyond their careers.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faced growing speculation that their five-year deal with Netflix will not be renewed. The deal, which was reportedly a major pillar of their post-royal income, is now in question. Without it, many are wondering how the couple will maintain their high-profile lifestyle in Montecito, including their $29 million estate and a reportedly large household staff.

Royal commentator and former GB News host Dan Wootton weighed in on the situation during a recent segment on his YouTube channel Outspoken. He did not hold back.
“The money problems are driving Harry to sleep in the chicken coop,” Wootton joked, though he made it clear he believes the financial stress could have very real consequences for the couple’s relationship.
Wootton, who previously worked for The Sun, claimed an insider told him, “They were relying on this [Netflix] deal to fund their $29 million mansion and their huge range of staff. Without it they could be heading towards bankruptcy and divorce.”

Adding fuel to the fire, Wootton pointed to the status of their much-discussed Netflix project Meet Me at the Lake. Despite early hype, the film seems stalled. “Meanwhile, Page Six is also reporting that the couple’s [film] has no director, or cast and may never happen as their Netflix deal falls apart,” Wootton said.
The rumors swirling around Meghan and Harry have only intensified with the looming expiration of their Netflix contract. For many, this deal represented the Sussexes’ biggest move to define their brand outside of the British royal family. Losing it would be more than just a financial setback—it could symbolize the unraveling of their post-royal identity.
Critics have been quick to question the couple’s ability to deliver on major media projects, pointing out the lack of consistent output despite having a high-profile deal. Now with one of their most promoted projects in limbo and no clear roadmap for what’s next, concerns are growing about their long-term plans.

Still, the couple hasn’t publicly addressed the speculation about the Netflix deal or the divorce rumors. As with many things involving Meghan and Harry, silence only seems to stir more curiosity.
Whether or not the dire predictions come true, one thing is clear. The pressure is on for the Sussexes to show what’s next. With their Netflix deal hanging in the balance and insiders warning of major consequences, all eyes are once again on Harry and Meghan—and not in the way they might have hoped.
