Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are once again under scrutiny, this time from royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, who has issued stern warnings to both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over their personal and professional choices. Fitzwilliams suggests that Harry is being overshadowed in his relationship, while Meghan’s grand ambitions may ultimately fall short.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Fitzwilliams said, “Harry is increasingly finding himself as the spare in a relationship with Meghan, which undoubtedly involves mutual affection, but where their priorities differ widely.” He continued, “Meghan likes glitz and glamour and is ruthless, as the interview on Oprah showed so clearly. Because she married Harry, her brand does have reach.”

The Sussexes, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020, have ventured into the entertainment industry with varying success. Their high-profile deals with Netflix and Spotify were launched with fanfare, but while Netflix has yielded several projects, their partnership with Spotify ended prematurely.
According to Fitzwilliams, Meghan’s aspirations to become a “billionaire influencer and an A-list celebrity” may be difficult to achieve, pointing out, “She has very few A-list friends.”

While Prince Harry received praise for his dedication to charitable work, Fitzwilliams highlighted a series of recent blunders that have cast a shadow on his public image. “He’s made a large number of mistakes, like his angry and resentful half-hour interview with the BBC after he lost his court case over security, and his ill-judged memoir Spare.”
Still, Fitzwilliams acknowledged the Duke’s sincere commitment to causes like the Invictus Games. “Invictus means a lot to him; it was a joy to see him at the WellChild Awards last year. He genuinely enjoyed being with the children, it seemed as though the ‘old Harry’ was temporarily back,” he remarked.

However, he warned that Harry lacks Meghan’s drive: “Though often emotional, he lacks Meghan’s ruthlessness, which was so apparent in the Oprah interview.” Turning his attention to Meghan, Fitzwilliams pointed to her declining popularity in the U.S., attributing it partly to longstanding bullying allegations strongly denied by Meghan, and to criticism of her recent Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
“The talent isn’t there, the ambition is boundless, the self-love infinite, and it shows far too obviously,” he said. “The novelty has worn off, too. If you preach love but rubbish the Royal Family, which you married into, you might not make the fortune you seek!” As public interest begins to wane and criticism mounts, the Sussexes may face a challenging road ahead in reshaping their global brand.
