Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has issued a stern warning regarding the ongoing rift between Prince Harry and the Royal Family, suggesting it may ultimately tarnish King Charles III’s legacy if left unresolved.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Fitzwilliams acknowledged that the monarch’s reign is not currently overshadowed by the family feud, but emphasized that the sustained media attention surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle poses a growing threat to the monarchy’s image.

“Charles’ reign is not being overshadowed by the feud,” he explained. “But it is being damaged by it because of the huge amount of publicity.” The comments come in the wake of Prince Harry’s recent interview, which Fitzwilliams described as filled with “anger” and “gutted” sentiment. He warned that any further public criticisms from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could significantly complicate the Royal Family’s efforts to maintain a positive public image.
“It would be a serious problem for the Royal Family if he and Meghan launched further attacks,” the expert said, noting that such behavior has unfortunately become a recurring pattern during King Charles’s short reign.
Reflecting on the state of the monarchy two years after Charles’s coronation, Fitzwilliams remarked, “His reign is shaping up as both eventful and oddly unchanging in its core narrative: that of a beleaguered father managing a messy brood.”

The relationship between Charles and his younger son has remained strained since Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties in 2020, followed by a series of high-profile interviews, a Netflix documentary, and the publication of Harry’s memoir Spare, which contained several explosive claims about the Royal Family.
While Charles has tried to focus on his own initiatives promoting unity, environmental stewardship, and social harmony, the ongoing tensions with Harry threaten to overshadow these efforts.

Fitzwilliams concluded his analysis with a direct warning for the monarch: “Unless Charles finds a way to heal that rift, it could define his reign, undercutting the messages of tolerance and inclusiveness that he has long championed.”
As the royal household continues to navigate its modern role under King Charles’s leadership, pressure is mounting to either reconcile with the Sussexes or bring greater clarity to the public about the Royal Family’s position. For now, the ongoing family drama risks becoming a dominant thread in the story of Charles III’s reign.
