A newlywed bride has shared her devastating story after her husband died by suicide just one day after what she described as a “perfect honeymoon.” In a heartbreaking twist, she later received a bouquet of flowers he had arranged to be delivered months in advance, after his death.
Isabel Coles, 32, from Southern Pines, North Carolina, married Christopher Coles in September 2024 after meeting on a dating app a year and a half earlier. “We were so insanely happy and in love,” she shared in a viral video that has reached nearly 40 million viewers.

For their honeymoon, the couple attended the Sea.Hear.The Now music festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, was a choice that held special meaning for them. “Music was a huge part of our relationship,” Isabel said. “It was the perfect way to celebrate our marriage.”
But after returning home, Isabel noticed a shift in her husband’s behavior. “In the morning, he was folding laundry, and things were a little weird. I asked him what was wrong, and he said ‘nothing,’” she recalled. Shortly after, Christopher walked out of the house with a handgun. Isabel attempted to stop him, but he disappeared into a nearby forest, reported The Sun.

The next day, Christopher’s father, who had traveled with his wife from Georgia to help search, found his son’s body. Christopher, an army veteran, had taken his own life. He had shown no signs of mental distress beforehand, Isabel said. “He was successful, driven, motivated… There were no signs. It did take me really off guard.”
The couple had legally wed before his October deployment and were planning a larger ceremony with friends and family in May 2025. Isabel said they often spent months apart due to his military service, during which he would write her daily letters.

On Valentine’s Day, months after his passing, Isabel received a flower delivery he had pre-ordered. “I freaked out,” she said. “The florist told me he had scheduled the order in September, knowing he’d be away.”
Though her video has inspired support, Isabel has also faced cruel online attacks blaming her for his death. “There are things I do blame myself for,” she said, “but I don’t think we were unhappy… he obviously was fighting demons, and no one knew about it.”
Now, Isabel plans to run the Chicago Marathon in October 2025 in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. “I’m not doing well. There’s a part of me that is gone forever.”
