34-year-old Father dies in motorcycle crash on the way to his son’s First birth

A 34-year-old Denver man was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday morning while on his way to the hospital for the birth of his son, his family confirmed.

Bobby Murphy, a father of two, collided with a dump truck at the intersection of East 14th Avenue and North Milwaukee Street, according to Denver Police. Sgt. Mike Farr of the Traffic Investigation Unit said officers arrived to find the motorcyclist in critical condition. Murphy later succumbed to his injuries.

Michelle Tortarella, Murphy’s godmother, told NewsNation affiliate KDVR that he never got to meet his newborn son. “He was on his way to the hospital when the accident happened,” she said. Murphy, originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, had lived in Denver for seven to eight years and was already a father to a young daughter.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses. Tortarella described Murphy as a loving father and said his death has left the family devastated.

Denver Police are still investigating the crash, but initial reports suggest Murphy’s motorcycle struck the rear of a roll-off dump truck. No further details about the cause of the collision have been released.

Friends and family shared their grief online, remembering Murphy as a devoted parent and a kind-hearted man. His girlfriend, now left to raise their newborn son alone, is receiving an outpouring of community support.

“He was so excited to meet his baby boy,” Tortarella said. “It’s heartbreaking that he never got that chance.”

The tragedy has underscored the dangers of road travel, leaving Murphy’s loved ones to mourn a life cut short just as his family was growing. Authorities urge witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to contact Denver Police.
