Prince William was reportedly unaware that King Charles and Prince Harry held a private meeting during the Duke of Sussex’s recent visit to the United Kingdom, according to royal insiders. The reunion between father and son took place on Wednesday, September 10, at Clarence House in London.
The one-hour tea marked their first face-to-face meeting in 19 months. Harry was in the country for a four-day trip, which included appearances tied to his Invictus Games foundation. Despite the significance of the meeting, reports suggest that the Prince of Wales was left completely out of the loop.
One courtier told royal insider Rob Shuter, as quoted by RadarOnline, that William had expected his father to be in London only for medical reasons. “William thought his father was in London strictly for cancer treatment and official audiences,” the insider said.

The source added that William was not informed of the plans. “He had no idea Harry was on the schedule – and certainly wasn’t asked for input,” the courtier claimed. According to the same insider, if William had been aware of the tea, he likely would have opposed it. “If William had been consulted, he would have tried to block it,” the source said.
“That’s why Charles went ahead quietly.” The account paints a picture of continued strain within the royal family. William has long been reported as having a difficult relationship with his younger brother since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Their public rift has shown little sign of healing, and the surprise reunion between Charles and Harry may only deepen tensions. For Harry, however, the meeting appeared to be a welcome moment. Later that evening, while attending an Invictus Games event, the Duke of Sussex was asked about his father.

Smiling, he responded simply, “Yes, he’s great, thank you.” The contrast between William’s alleged frustration and Harry’s visible relief underscores the ongoing complexities within the House of Windsor. While Charles’s health has been a concern since his cancer diagnosis, the King’s decision to meet privately with Harry indicates an effort, however limited, at reconciliation.
Whether the meeting sparks further progress between father and son—or widens the distance between William and Harry—remains to be seen. For now, insiders suggest the future king is less than pleased about being kept in the dark.
