Tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry show no signs of easing, with reports suggesting reconciliation between the brothers remains unlikely. “As for Harry and William, though, any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand,” a source told The Mirror.
The outlet reported that the central issue dividing the brothers is a lack of trust. “The issue with Harry, as well as Meghan, is one of trust. Ever since moving to North America, they have eroded all confidence in their ability to keep things or their criticisms private,” the insider said.
The source added that rebuilding trust is the only way forward, but the responsibility lies with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “For there to be any chance of moving forward, that trust has to be rebuilt, and Team Sussex knows the onus is on them.”
According to the report, Prince William believes Harry has repeatedly put publicity ahead of private resolution. “William feels Harry has repeatedly chosen public exposure over private resolution and that the Royal Family can’t keep being dragged into the headlines every time there’s a new contract to promote,” the insider explained.
While the Prince of Wales remains firm, King Charles is said to be more open to reconnecting with his younger son. The King and Harry are expected to meet in London on September 8, marking their first face-to-face encounter in 20 months. The meeting coincides with Harry’s scheduled appearance at the WellChild Awards charity event and also falls on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.
Sources described preparations for the meeting as an “informal peace summit” between Harry’s representatives and Buckingham Palace officials. “It’s clear there is now a determination on both sides to make this happen. Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry,” the source said.
With King Charles continuing cancer treatment, the timing is considered significant. “After 20 months apart, and with the King continuing his treatment, the feeling is that the time is right to take that step,” the insider added.
The expected encounter is being framed as private and low-key rather than ceremonial. “This is not about grand gestures or set-piece meetings – it’s about a simple face-to-face conversation between a father and his son. The priority is privacy and dignity,” the source explained.
Reports also indicate Meghan Markle will not accompany Prince Harry on his visit to London.
