Prince William Plans To Further Slim Down Royal Family In Future Monarchy

Prince William reportedly intends to reduce the size of the royal family even more than his father, King Charles, did when he ascended to the throne in 2022. According to a new report, the Prince of Wales envisions a smaller, more streamlined monarchy focused on his immediate family and a greater sense of privacy.

When King Charles became monarch, he began cutting back on the number of working royals, aiming to modernize the institution and reduce costs. However, sources suggest William wants to go even further, limiting royal duties to only the closest members of the royal household.

An insider told Radar Online that William is determined to shape the monarchy around his own life and values. “William is reshaping things on his own terms,” the source said. “He’s convinced that a leaner monarchy is the way forward.”

The insider also cautioned that such a change could come with risks. “But if he pulls back too much, and if the public stops seeing royals out meeting people and doing engagements, that bond begins to weaken. He really needs to tread carefully,” the source warned.

William’s approach reportedly stems from his desire to balance royal duty with his role as a hands-on father and husband. The future king is known for being deeply involved in family life with his wife, Princess Kate, and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

“Unlike Charles, who doesn’t have young children at home, William enjoys doing the school run and spending time in the countryside – his lifestyle is completely different,” the insider said. The Prince and Princess of Wales have long emphasized the importance of giving their children as normal a childhood as possible, often retreating to their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, for private family time.

Royal experts say William’s vision reflects a broader shift within the monarchy toward a more relatable and less formal image. However, some question whether reducing public engagements might risk weakening the royal family’s visibility and connection with the public—a key part of its continued relevance.

As the heir to the throne, William is expected to make gradual changes rather than sweeping reforms, but those close to him believe his priorities are clear: a smaller, more efficient monarchy centered on duty, family, and modern values. If his plan succeeds, William’s reign could mark the most significant redefinition of royal life in generations—one where the crown shines a little smaller, but perhaps more personally.
