Prince Harry is reportedly risking not only his strained ties with the Royal Family but also his marriage to Meghan Markle in his latest effort to reconcile with his father, King Charles III, and brother, Prince William. According to The Daily Mail, the Duke of Sussex is preparing to send a formal invitation to the Royal Family to attend the 2027 Invictus Games, which will take place in Birmingham from July 12 to July 17.
The gesture is widely being interpreted as Harry’s most significant olive branch to date. Citing royal sources, the publication reports that Harry, now a father of two, is eager to mend fences with King Charles and other senior royals. An initial email invitation is expected to go out later this month, with a formal, written invite to follow.
However, not everyone close to the Duke is supportive of this move. Sources speaking to Woman’s Day revealed that Harry’s reconciliation efforts may be creating new tensions within his household.
“He’s desperate to make amends, and he’s willing to play a long game if that’s what it takes,” one insider said. “He’s risking everything doing this – especially at home, because his wife, Meghan, is not happy about it at all.”
While the Sussexes have taken a step back from royal life since 2020, Harry has remained committed to his veteran-focused charity, the Invictus Games. His decision to use the event as a means to reconnect with his family could mark a turning point — or a fresh source of conflict, depending on the response from both the monarchy and his wife.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl weighed in on the developments, saying there is hope for renewed communication between father and son. “The King absolutely wants a relationship with his youngest son and with his grandchildren,” Nicholl told Woman’s Day.
“He has an incredible capacity for forgiveness, and he wants to be magnanimous in all of this. Therefore, there’s certainly a possibility the King might consider attending Invictus.” Whether King Charles or Prince William will accept the invitation remains uncertain.
