“I’ll Go It Alone”: Harry and Meghan’s Seventh Christmas Away From Royals Fuels Rift Rumors

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s continued absence from the royal family’s Christmas celebrations is once again raising questions about the state of their relationship with the monarchy. This year marked the seventh consecutive Christmas the couple has spent away from the royal fold, reinforcing speculation that tensions behind palace walls remain unresolved.

While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to spend the holidays privately in Montecito with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the rest of the royal family gathered in the UK. King Charles hosted Prince William, Princess Kate, and their children at Sandringham, underscoring the visible divide between the Sussexes and the rest of the family.

According to recent reports, Meghan has privately urged Harry to repair his strained relationship with his royal relatives. Sources claim the Duchess issued her husband an ultimatum in the months leading up to Christmas 2023, pushing him to “fix things” before it was too late. Harry last attended a royal Christmas in 2018, shortly after marrying Meghan, and was said to be quietly hoping for a Sandringham invitation this year.

The reported ultimatum was allegedly sparked in part by a viral episode of Family Guy that mocked the couple’s post-royal life. In the episode, cartoon versions of Harry and Meghan lounge poolside after Peter Griffin declares, “I’ll go it alone, just like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.”

A butler then approaches Harry with envelopes, saying, “Sir, your millions from Netflix for no one knows what,” to which the animated prince replies with a dismissive wave: “Put it with the rest of them.” The satire escalates when Meghan’s phone alerts her to say, “Babe, time to do our daily $250,000 sponsored Instagram post for Del Taco.” The scene ends with Harry appearing regretful, stating, “I shouldn’t have left the made-up nonsense.”

Sources at the time said the clip “cut the pair deep,” leaving them “desperate” to repair their public image and family relationships. One insider told Closer, “Meghan has distanced herself from the furore for months, but now she’s giving Harry an ultimatum and demanding that he do whatever it takes to fix things.”

The renewed focus on the couple comes as Meghan returned to Netflix with a festive installment of her lifestyle series. With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration features the Duchess creating holiday-themed crafts and dishes while offering glimpses of her California life with Harry.

Despite the glossy holiday content, the Sussexes’ continued absence from royal traditions suggests reconciliation remains elusive. For now, Christmas for Harry and Meghan looks very different from the one they once shared with the royal family.
