Tensions within the royal family appear to be at an all-time high, with experts warning that the rift between the Sussexes and the Windsors could now be “worse than ever.”
Royal editor Duncan Larcombe shared his concerns in a report for OK! Magazine, saying the strained relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry shows no signs of easing. “There’s no doubt the feud between them is worse than ever, so much has happened, and there has been so much betrayal and fury,” he explained.
According to Larcombe, the ongoing divide is fueled by past interviews and revelations made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since stepping back from royal duties. The couple’s sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 was seen as the first major rupture, as Harry and Meghan openly criticized the institution and discussed deeply personal family matters.

“Their Oprah Winfrey interview was the first big blow, so to speak, because it showed that Harry and Meghan were prepared to speak about the royals, particularly Charles and William, in a way one would never expect from another family member,” Larcombe said.
But the release of Harry’s memoir Spare in 2023 intensified the divide even further. “Then Harry’s book, Spare, was incredibly damaging and made William furious because of the betrayal of family secrets,” Larcombe added.
The rift has left Prince William struggling to forgive his younger brother, according to the report. Analysts suggest the longer the estrangement continues, the harder it will be to repair. “In the eyes of Mr. Larcombe, the longer they don’t speak, the deeper the feud will get,” the report stated.
The Sussexes’ media projects, including their Netflix docuseries and various interviews, have also contributed to tensions, with critics inside the palace viewing them as repeated breaches of trust. While supporters argue Harry and Meghan are simply telling their side of the story, the disclosures have been perceived by some royals as highly damaging to the family’s reputation.

The ongoing discord has sparked fears within the media and among royal watchers that reconciliation may be increasingly unlikely. Observers note that past royal disputes have eventually cooled with time, but the scale of this feud may make that difficult.
As the Firm prepares for future transitions in leadership, the absence of unity between the princes remains a significant challenge. For now, the silence between the brothers appears to speak louder than any public statements, leaving the question of reconciliation unresolved.
