Reports suggest Queen Camilla remains deeply upset with Prince Harry over his criticisms in his 2023 memoir Spare and in subsequent interviews, with insiders warning the tension could complicate King Charles’s attempts to reconcile with his son.
A palace insider told the Examiner that Camilla is “still livid over what he wrote about her” in the book. The Queen Consort is said to have taken particular offense at Harry’s claim that she worked with a “spin doctor” who allegedly planted negative stories about him.
The source noted, “And what he said in follow-up interviews,” only hardened her feelings. Prince William has also been described as angered by Harry’s allegations, particularly the suggestion that Camilla’s team at times planted stories about him, Kate, and their children. According to the insider, William was left “seething” and reportedly said, “Give Pa and Camilla an inch, they take a mile.”
The rift has been further complicated by Harry’s recent private meeting with King Charles, the first face-to-face contact between father and son after 19 months of silence. While the King reportedly hopes for reconciliation, Camilla is said to be skeptical.
She allegedly believes her husband is “risking terrible consequences by letting Harry in the door or giving him any kind of audience.” Sources suggest she fears that attempts at mending the relationship could “backfire.”
Harry’s trip to the United Kingdom was tied to a four-day tour promoting his charitable projects and patronages. His visit reignited speculation about whether he might re-establish closer ties to the royal family.
But palace insiders indicate that resistance remains strong, particularly from Camilla and William. One source said, “It sickens William that Harry has wormed his way back to his father’s affections, because to him it’s just wrong on every level and utterly ridiculous.”
The insider added, “The fact his brother’s now got this direct line back to the family despite all the pain and misery he’s inflicted — he’s totally bewildered and frustrated that it’s being sanctioned.”
