A recent court filing in the Georgia election interference case involving former President Donald Trump’s co-defendant alleges a “romantic relationship” between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade. The 39-page document, seeking the dismissal of charges against Michael Roman, suggests that Willis and Wade have been seen together in personal settings, including trips to Napa Valley and socializing in Atlanta.

The filing, submitted on Monday, lacks direct evidence to substantiate the claims, citing only “sources with knowledge” and raising concerns about the process of Wade’s appointment by Willis, who is accused of hiring her romantic partner. Attorney Ashleigh Merchant, representing Roman, pointed out that Wade is a married man, referencing his ongoing divorce proceedings.

Merchant’s filing requests the disqualification of Willis, Wade, and the entire DA’s office from prosecuting the case, asserting that an alleged improper relationship has allowed the special prosecutor and, consequently, the district attorney to benefit financially from the prosecution at the taxpayers’ expense.

A spokesperson for the DA’s office announced that a response to the allegations would be filed in court and refrained from further commentary. Merchant, responding to the absence of concrete evidence in the filing, explained that certain evidence could not be shared until Wade’s divorce records are unsealed.

“At a hearing, the concrete evidence would be presented. So, when we get a hearing, there would be concrete evidence and obviously that could be in the form of two of the prosecution team members,” she stated, alluding to the possibility of Willis and Wade testifying.”
