Former President Donald Trump’s ally, Rudy Giuliani, may face contempt of court if he does not accept service of his indictment in Arizona soon. The Washington Post reports that prosecutors and investigators from Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes’ office have made multiple attempts to serve Giuliani with a summons.

This summons is a formal notice indicating that Giuliani has been criminally charged in Arizona and must appear before a judge on May 21, according to Richie Taylor, a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office. Investigators from Arizona traveled to New York City to serve the indictment at Giuliani’s New York apartment, from where he had recently streamed content.

“A person close to Giuliani said Tuesday that he keeps a busy schedule and that the April 24 indictment hasn’t slowed him down. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss Giuliani’s activities.”

However, the person at the reception desk refused to accept the papers on Giuliani’s behalf, complicating the process. Giuliani is one of several Trump associates indicted in connection with the fake electors investigation in Arizona. Others indicted include Trump lawyers John Eastman, Christina Bobb, and Jenna Ellis; former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows; and GOP strategists Mike Roman and Boris Epshteyn.

This development follows Giuliani’s indictment in the Georgia election racketeering case brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, a case in which Trump himself was also charged. The Georgia case is currently on hold as a state appeals court reviews an ethics hearing that permitted Willis to remain in charge of the case.

In addition to these criminal charges, Giuliani faces a $148 million judgment for defaming a pair of election workers in Georgia, leading him to declare bankruptcy. Adding to his woes, Giuliani has reportedly been dropped by his accountant in the midst of these proceedings.

The mounting legal challenges and financial burdens have placed Giuliani in a precarious position, highlighting the extensive legal fallout for Trump associates involved in the efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. As the situation unfolds, Giuliani’s legal and financial troubles are likely to draw significant public and media scrutiny.
