The scientists argue that such cuts not only threaten critical missions but also dismantle key safety and oversight structures within NASA. One of the most alarming changes, according to the letter, is the proposed downsizing of NASA’s Technical Authority capacity, an internal oversight system designed to prevent engineering and safety failures.
