Man Allegedly Kills 23-Year-Old Girlfriend in Infidelity Fight and Leaves 2-Year-Old Baby Alone with Her Body for 4 Days

A Kentucky man has been convicted in the tragic shooting death of a 23-year-old woman whose two-year-old daughter was left alone with her body for several days, Louisville authorities announced. Kierra Stone-Gonzalez was found dead in her apartment on September 21, 2022, four days after she was last heard from, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Alongside her body, officers discovered her toddler, who had been left in the home during that time. Family members say the child is the daughter of Stone-Gonzalez. “It’s hard because her sister and I are the ones who found her,” said the victim’s mother, Michelle Stone, in an interview with WAVE 3. “We walked in on her. We walked in on her, and the one blessing that I got out of this is the fact that they didn’t kill my granddaughter.”

Investigators identified Jeremy Jamar Thompson, now 30, as the primary suspect. Court documents revealed that prior to the shooting, Thompson had sent threatening messages to Stone-Gonzalez on social media, including the chilling warning: “I’ll smoke you,” and a claim that he would “get away with it.”

Following the discovery of Stone-Gonzalez’s body, police said Thompson messaged another individual, stating, “I think I shot somebody last night.” He reportedly went on to detail the crime, admitting to shooting the victim in the head.

During police questioning, Thompson admitted to having a romantic relationship with the victim. He claimed the deadly encounter stemmed from a dispute over infidelity, according to WDRB.

Thompson, a convicted felon, was charged with murder and illegal possession of a handgun. On May 22, more than two years after the killing, he was found guilty on both counts, according to reports from WHAS. The jury recommended a total sentence of 35 years in prison, including a mandatory 20-year term for the murder conviction.

“The jury found this defendant responsible for taking the life of a young mother and creating a tragic set of circumstances for her family,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina D. Whethers in a statement released to local media outlets.

Thompson is scheduled to be formally sentenced on July 2, court records confirm. Michelle Stone said she wants the world to remember her daughter not for the tragedy of her death, but for the love and kindness she shared in life.

“She had a good heart, and she definitely didn’t deserve what happened to her,” her mother told WAVE 3. “I want her to be remembered for her smile and her heart of gold.”
