Meghan Markle is catching heat online, and this time it’s not about royal drama, it’s about vegetables. A seemingly innocent Instagram post featuring her rescue beagle Mia and a basket full of garden-fresh produce has sparked a wave of skepticism from green-thumbed fans who noticed something didn’t quite add up.
In the photo, Meghan, 43, shows Mia giving a good sniff to a wicker basket packed with colorful veggies. “The unofficial quality inspector of this morning’s garden haul,” Meghan captioned the photo, referencing her adorable beagle, who joined the Sussex family in 2022.

The basket looked like something straight off a farmer’s market display—broccoli, carrots, corn, red peppers, squash, spring onions, and a mix of fresh herbs, all seemingly hand-picked from the grounds of her $23 million Montecito estate. But fans were quick to point out that the basket looked a little too perfect.
“Everything looks supermarket shelf-ready,” one user commented, noting the complete lack of dirt. “Not even a smudge on the carrots?” Another chimed in with a playful jab: “She must be a wizard to grow corn, squash, and broccoli all at the same time.” “Bit of a miracle garden she’s got there,” someone else added.
But beyond the cleanliness of the veggies, it was the timing that really raised eyebrows. Corn in May? That’s not usually how California gardens work. According to the California Farmland Trust, sweet corn typically isn’t harvested until June or later. Meanwhile, broccoli tends to be picked much earlier in the year. “Corn in May? That’s a new one. Most of that stuff isn’t even in season yet,” a commenter noted.
To be fair, some of the items—like spring onions, carrots, peppers, and certain varieties of squash—are harvestable around this time in California, depending on the climate and planting conditions. But fans weren’t convinced this was a real garden haul at all. Some suspected the veggies came straight from a local farmers’ market.
It’s the kind of detail only Meghan could get dragged for posting an aesthetic garden photo and ending up at the center of a produce truthers movement. This isn’t the first peek Meghan has given into her life at home in Montecito. Just days before the veggie post, she shared a rare and heartwarming video of her daughter Lilibet dressed in a mini beekeeping suit, walking hand-in-hand with her toward the family’s hives.

The sweet mother-daughter moment was shared without showing Lili’s face, continuing Meghan and Harry’s effort to keep their kids, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, mostly out of the spotlight while still giving fans glimpses into their world. That clip also tied into Meghan’s latest project With Love, Meghan, a cooking and crafting docuseries on Netflix, where she shared her passion for beekeeping in the very first episode, released earlier this year.
Whether the veggies came from her own backyard or a really well-stocked market, one thing’s for sure—when Meghan shares anything, the internet will dig in. Literally.
