Hoskins Returns & Hits Two Home Runs in Phillies’ 7-4 Victory Against Padres

The Phillies were 5-8 in that run before Hoskins returned to the lineup Sunday after missing 13 games due to a groin issue. His presence was immediately felt all over Petco Park. Hoskins says,

“Feels great to be back. Huge, huge series win obviously. Pretty disappointing in Arizona, but that’s what we’ve done all year right? We’ve bounced back.”

After being swept by the MLB’s weakest team, the Arizona Diamondbacks, earlier in the week, the Phillies picked up a couple of crucial wins against a potential playoff team.

Hoskins had been out since August 5 due to a groin injury incurred in late July that went deep in his second and third plate appearances. Despite missing 19 games this season, he has three more home runs (26) and ten more RBI (60) than any other Phillies player. He was activated before the game as Alec Bohm was optioned to Triple-A.

After blowing a two-run lead with two outs in the ninth inning of Saturday’s loss, the Phillies badly needed this one. They answered an embarrassing sweep in Arizona by taking two of three in San Diego against a talented but fading Padres team. The Padres have dropped nine of their last 11 games and are now trail the Reds by a game for the second wild-card spot.

The position of the Phillies in the standings remained unchanged. The Phillies are still five games out in the NL East and five behind the Reds in the wild-card race after the Braves won their ninth straight game. The Phillies’ five-game division deficit is their second-largest of the season.

Hoskins hit his fourth multi-homer game of the season and now has a total of 26 for the campaign.

As per the report of abc27, the Phillies now turn their attentiveness to the American League’s best, the Tampa Bay Rays, who visit Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday and Wednesday for a two-game series.
