Two sisters are incarcerated in Montgomery County, facing severe charges for the alleged prolonged abuse of a 12-year-old girl, which investigators describe as months of torture. Brenda Garcia and Tania Garcia are both jailed on bonds set at $200,000 each. They are accused of subjecting the child to relentless physical abuse that began in March at Brenda Garcia’s home on Goodman Road.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation revealed a harrowing pattern of violence. Detectives state the 12-year-old victim was repeatedly hit with belts, cords, and sticks. The abuse allegedly escalated to the child being tied up, cut with scissors, and choked.
Court documents detail one particularly disturbing incident where Brenda Garcia is accused of choking the girl until she could not breathe and wrapping a belt around her neck while telling the victim to “just die.” The child’s path to the Garcia home was itself tragic. Investigators report that the victim’s biological mother lives in another country and that the girl had been staying with an uncle in Houston.
The victim told detectives that her uncle had been sexually assaulting her. Seeking help, the child reached out to Brenda Garcia, whose daughter knows the uncle. Brenda Garcia reportedly took the child in during March. However, instead of finding sanctuary, court documents allege the abuse by the Garcia sisters began almost immediately, KHOU reported.
The nightmare continued until September 30, when the victim managed to escape her restraints and flee the home. A deputy found her with a large, infected gash on her head and injuries covering her body. Authorities revealed that Child Protective Services (CPS) had been involved, but that Brenda Garcia had allegedly misled them by claiming the child had moved back to Honduras with her mother.
When detectives interviewed Brenda Garcia, she denied any wrongdoing and claimed the victim was manufacturing the allegations. The investigation into the child’s uncle in Houston is ongoing, and it is unclear if he faces any charges. When asked about the potential for further arrests, a representative from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office stated, “Regarding any further arrests, the investigation is ongoing, and we cannot provide anything further right now to protect the integrity of the case.”
