In a recent episode of her talk show, “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg delved into the topic of a potential robot apocalypse, sparking a lively discussion among her and her co-panelists. The conversation was ignited by the emergence of a new AI-generated online influencer, Alba, who has made headlines by securing a role as a host for a segment on the Spanish version of the reality TV show “Survivor.”

Whoopi Goldberg, known for her sharp wit and insightful commentary, didn’t shy away from sharing her apprehensions about the increasing presence and influence of artificial intelligence and non-human entities in everyday life. The discussion on “The View” extended beyond the specifics of Alba’s role in entertainment to a broader contemplation of the implications of AI in society, reported Entertainment Weekly.

“I can’t believe that you guys fell for this other B.S., and you can’t see anything wrong here,” said the 68-year-old. Whoopi mentioned, “I told you what was coming four years ago, and I told you to stop fooling with all that, you know, talking to Siris, this is where she’s come from and it’s your fault.”

Her comments came after Whoopi’s co-host Joy Behar stated, “We’re all going to be robots? So, the robot is going to read the legal note instead of Sunny?” “Not as good,” responded Sunny Hostin, who is the show’s legal expert.

“You know she is listening. I don’t want her in the house,” mentioned Whoopi. She added, “I don’t want anything that is smart enough to lock me out of my house, I don’t want anything that won’t let me drive my car. When you watch science fiction, it’s right there. They tell you: this is the future.”

Adding a personal touch to the conversation, the acclaimed actress and Oscar winner revealed her own discomfort with the integration of AI-driven devices in personal spaces. Specifically, she mentioned her unease with Amazon’s Alexa, a popular in-home digital assistant that has become a fixture in many households worldwide.

Goldberg’s reluctance to embrace such technology highlights a common concern about privacy, autonomy, and the ever-blurring line between human and machine interaction. Goldberg’s insights on “The View” reflect a growing public discourse on the role of AI and robotics in our lives.

As these technologies become more sophisticated and integrated into various aspects of daily life, from entertainment to personal assistance, the conversation about their implications becomes increasingly relevant. Whoopi Goldberg’s stance on the matter, coupled with her public platform, contributes to the wider debate on how society navigates the integration of AI, ensuring it serves to enhance rather than diminish the human experience.

The dialogue initiated by Goldberg and her co-panelists on “The View” serves as a microcosm of the larger societal conversation about the future of AI and its impact on human life. As technology continues to advance, these discussions will remain crucial in shaping the way we understand and interact with the non-human entities that are becoming an ever more significant part of our world.
