Machine Gun Kelly just put the brakes on all those Sydney Sweeney dating rumors, and he did it live on national TV. The 35-year-old musician, whose real name is Colson Baker, was a guest on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Sunday, August 10. Mid-interview, Cohen read a fan question asking if he and the 27-year-old Euphoria actress were “more than just friends.”
MGK didn’t hesitate. Looking right into the camera, he smirked, shook his head, and said, “Kyle P, shut up, dude.” The blunt response drew laughs from Cohen, the audience, and likely a sigh of relief from anyone tired of the gossip cycle. The chatter started back in May after Page Six published photos of the two hugging at the opening of a new Las Vegas club.
The internet went into overdrive, fueled further when MGK posted an Instagram carousel that included a picture of him and Sweeney smiling for the camera and flashing peace signs. Patrick Schwarzenegger and celebrity hairstylist Glen Oropeza were also in the shot, but that didn’t stop the rumor mill.
Sweeney later shared her own Instagram Story from the same event, posing alongside Schwarzenegger and MGK. That small detail was all fans needed to start connecting dots, even if the dots didn’t actually lead anywhere.

Both are single right now. MGK’s split from Megan Fox was confirmed by Us Weekly in December 2024. He and Fox share a four-month-old daughter, Saga, and he’s also dad to 16-year-old Casie from his previous relationship with Emma Cannon. Sweeney, meanwhile, ended her engagement to Jonathan Davino in May.
The thing is, this isn’t some sudden connection. MGK and Sweeney go way back. She starred in his 2021 directorial debut Downfalls High and they also worked together in the 2019 coming-of-age film Big Time Adolescence, which also featured MGK’s longtime friend Pete Davidson.
He told The New York Times’ Popcast podcast: So while the cozy Vegas moment and friendly social media posts may have looked like the start of something new, MGK’s on-air dismissal makes it pretty clear they’re keeping it in the friendship lane.

That hasn’t stopped fans from weighing in online — some disappointed, some relieved, and others joking that the whole exchange on Watch What Happens Live was proof the two are actually dating and just playing coy. But for now, MGK’s “shut up, dude” seems like the final word.
