Kim Kardashian Says Caitlyn Jenner’s Transition Became “TV Gold” for KUWTK

Kim Kardashian is opening up about how Caitlyn Jenner’s transition shaped one of the most memorable eras of the family’s long-running reality series. The reality star called the moment “TV gold,” saying it became a defining storyline during the tenth season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2015.

Cameras captured the family’s unfiltered reactions when Caitlyn publicly came out as a transgender woman. Kim, along with sisters Khloe and Kourtney, and half-sisters Kendall and Kylie, experienced the emotional shift while filming continued as usual.

According to Kim, the transition brought a rare mix of vulnerability, tension, and honesty to the show, making it a season that fans still remember. In a recent episode of The Kardashians on Hulu, Kim reflected on how reality TV allowed her family to move through significant personal events without feeling the need to perform.

She joked that moments like Caitlyn’s transition needed no script because the real-life emotions played out naturally on camera. Still, Kim acknowledged that the experience was emotionally taxing behind the scenes. Watching her family navigate Caitlyn’s transformation — at a moment when the world was also watching — came with challenges.

She said her mother, Kris, struggled to balance supporting Caitlyn while holding the family together during a time of uncertainty and change. Kim noted that Kendall and Kylie were especially affected. As teenagers, they felt as though they were losing the father they had always known, even while trying to understand and support Caitlyn’s journey.

She added that Caitlyn kept much of her transition private at first, which made the family’s reactions more intense as they processed everything in real time. Despite the difficult emotions, Kim said documenting the experience helped them work through their feelings as a family.

Sharing those moments on screen gave them a chance to show support for one another and offered viewers a deeper look at the realities of navigating a major transformation within a family. Kim believes the openness during that period helped the show resonate with audiences who appreciated seeing the raw, unscripted moments that defined the season.

The experience, she said, became a reminder of how reality TV can capture not only the glamorous aspects of their lives but also the deeply personal ones that test their bonds.
