“A Profound Journey of Artistic and Personal Growth”: Kanye West Documentary In Whose Name? Arrives on Streaming

A new documentary exploring the life and career of Kanye West is making its streaming debut today. Titled In Whose Name?, the film is now rolling out on major platforms, giving a wider audience access to a project that has already sparked discussion during its theatrical run.

According to Deadline, the documentary will be available in select territories on Apple, Amazon, Fandango, and YouTube. While the release is not global across all regions, the move to streaming significantly expands the film’s reach beyond cinemas.

In Whose Name? is directed by Nico Ballesteros, a young filmmaker who began documenting Ye’s life when he was just 18 years old. Now 25, Ballesteros spent years capturing footage that spans a critical and often turbulent period in the artist’s life. Over that time, the documentary follows the unraveling of Kanye West’s personal relationships, the shifts in his music career, and his widely discussed mental health struggles.

The long-term access gives the film an unusually intimate perspective. Rather than focusing solely on public moments, it traces how fame, pressure, and power intersect with West’s creative output and personal battles. That approach has resonated with viewers and critics alike, helping the film gain a strong early reception.

Reacting to the response, Ballesteros shared his gratitude in a statement. “I am humbled at the reception this movie has gotten from audiences, critics, and my peers in the filmmaking community,” he adds. He also reflected on the importance of the documentary reaching a broader audience through streaming.

“By extending its reach beyond the theater, the film brings its exploration of American belief, power, and identity to a global audience, offering a deeper understanding of America’s contradictions while illuminating the life and legacy of one of the most iconic entertainers of our time.”

The documentary includes appearances from a wide range of high-profile figures who crossed paths with Ye over the years. Among them are Elon Musk, President Donald Trump, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Drake, Rihanna, LeBron James, Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams, Diddy, Anna Wintour, the late Charlie Kirk, and Kim Kardashian.

The film’s logline sets the tone for its reflective approach: “What began as silent observation evolved into a profound journey of artistic and personal growth. Immersed in Ye’s world of extremes, he bore witness to brilliance and breakdowns, triumphs and turmoil; but also observed the paranoia and intensity that increasingly shaped Ye’s world.”

As the synopsis concludes, “In the end, Ballesteros captured not just a portrait of Ye, but a reflection of the human condition in all its contradictions.”
