Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s growing relationship is drawing global headlines, but for his ex-wife, Sophie Gregoire, the situation comes with emotional challenges as she continues to share parenting responsibilities with the former Canadian prime minister.
Perry, forty-one, and Trudeau, fifty-three, have been seen together regularly, sparking public fascination and questions about how Sophie feels as their romance becomes increasingly visible. Sophie, now fifty and working as a motivational speaker, addressed the topic during an appearance on the Arlene Is Alone podcast.
Host Arlene Dickinson asked whether the public attention on Justin’s new relationship has been difficult. Sophie replied, “We’re human beings and stuff affects us,” adding that it would be unrealistic to pretend otherwise. She went on to explain that while difficult feelings are normal, she focuses on how she chooses to respond.

“How you react to stuff is your decision. So I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise.” Her comments reflected a broader message about emotional awareness and resilience, themes she often discusses in her advocacy work.
The mother of three said she continues to center her life around her children and her personal growth. Sophie shares sons Xavier, eighteen, and Hadrien, eleven, and daughter, Ella-Grace, sixteen, with Trudeau. She noted that navigating public scrutiny brings its own challenges but remains determined to stay grounded.
“I’m very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers. The woman I become through this is my decision,” she said. Sophie also spoke about the importance of maintaining a strong family structure despite the end of her marriage. She described a cooperative approach to coparenting that she and Justin have agreed to uphold.
“We have separate lives, but we have one family life. You need a common, conscious decision of, ‘Our family is our greatest creation and we’re going to feed it together, no matter if we’re on different life paths.’ It’s not always easy to live, but it’s very adult,” she told the host.

Sophie and Justin separated after eighteen years of marriage and publicly announced their split in a joint Instagram post. Since then, they have kept their focus on their children while managing increasing public interest in both of their personal lives.
Her latest remarks offer a window into how she is balancing private emotions with public expectations. While Justin and Perry’s relationship continues to attract attention, Sophie emphasized that her priority remains her own well-being and the stability of her family.
