Miami Delivery Driver Accused Of Fleeing After Hitting Woman And Baby In Crosswalk

A Miami-Dade woman is recovering from a skull fracture and brain bleed after she and her infant son were struck by a delivery driver who allegedly fled the scene after placing the injured baby back into his stroller. The driver, identified as 45-year-old Sarah Naybeth Parra Ovalles, was arrested and charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a crash, one resulting in serious bodily injury.

The incident took place around 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Isles Estates neighborhood on NE 193rd Street. According to an arrest report, Parra Ovalles, who was reportedly working as an Amazon delivery driver, checked in with security at the guard gate before entering the community. Surveillance footage later showed her driving a 2022 Hyundai SUV while making deliveries in the area.

A short time later, a woman walking with her infant son in a stroller and a dog began crossing NE 7th Avenue and NE 191st Street at a marked crosswalk. As they passed the halfway point, Parra Ovalles allegedly turned into the crosswalk “in the opposite lanes of traffic,” striking both the mother and stroller. The impact threw the woman backward onto the pavement and sent the stroller, with the baby inside, crashing to the ground.

Police say Parra Ovalles exited her vehicle, walked over to the stroller, adjusted it, placed the baby back inside, and then drove away without calling for help. A witness told officers she heard a car horn and a child crying, and when she looked outside, she saw a woman wearing an Amazon Prime vest standing beside a gray SUV before quickly leaving.

Her home security cameras captured the collision. The victims were rushed to the hospital. The mother suffered a skull fracture, facial bruising, and a brain bleed, while her baby sustained a forehead laceration. No update on their conditions was immediately available. Investigators identified Parra Ovalles by speaking with the neighborhood’s gate guard and reviewing surveillance footage.

She was asked to come in for an interview the following day. During questioning, she admitted to delivering packages in the neighborhood and encountering the woman and child, but claimed she only drove close to them. She said the mother appeared “out of it” and placed her hands on the hood of the SUV.

Parra Ovalles said she asked if the woman was okay, received a nod, and left. After investigators showed her video evidence, she denied the crash and invoked her rights. Parra Ovalles was taken into custody and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Amazon released a statement following the arrest, saying, “This is a terrible incident and our thoughts are with this family. We’re looking into the matter and will support law enforcement as they investigate. The driver in question is no longer delivering on behalf of Amazon.”
