Whoopi Goldberg Tearfully Reunites with Childhood Family on “The View”

On a recent episode of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg experienced an emotional moment as she reconnected with a cherished family from her childhood. As Goldberg, 67, took her moderator seat, some audience members shouted out to her, prompting her to turn with teary eyes and a smile.

Goldberg shared that her bond with this family dates back to their time living across the street from each other in New York City. Their reconnection was almost thwarted by a missed letter, which she hadn’t received for nearly half a year. “And here they are,” chimed in co-host Sunny Hostin, told Entertainment Weekly.

“My past is sitting in the front,” Goldberg said as the camera cut to a shot of the audience, where a handful of people sat staring up at the Ghost actress. “We grew up together. There’s one of our mothers that took care of everybody.”

Details of the family’s relationship with Goldberg are yet to be fully revealed. Goldberg and her late brother, Clyde, were brought up in New York by their mother, Emma Johnson, who passed away in 2010.

Catch “The View” on ABC, weekdays at 11 a.m. ET.
