A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman was found stabbed to death inside a southeast Houston home early Wednesday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said officers were dispatched to a residence in the 11900 block of Harristown Drive at approximately 2:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance. When officers arrived, they discovered a 71-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Houston police said the woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed that the victim was the suspect’s mother. The suspect, identified as Gerren Miles Crosson, was located nearby following a search of the surrounding area and taken into custody without further incident.
According to court records, Crosson admitted to stabbing his mother six times. In documents filed with the court, investigators wrote that Crosson told officers he committed the attack because he “felt like it was something he needed to do.”
Police have not released details about what may have led up to the stabbing or whether there were any prior calls for service to the residence that night. The motive for the killing remains under investigation.
Court records also reveal that Crosson has a previous criminal history involving a similar category of offense. In 2021, he was charged with injury to the elderly. That case, however, was ultimately dismissed, and police did not provide details on why the earlier charge did not proceed.
Houston Police Department officials confirmed that Crosson has now been formally charged with murder in connection with his mother’s death. He is expected to face the charge in court, where prosecutors will outline the evidence against him.
Investigators have not indicated whether mental health evaluations will play a role in the case, though such assessments are often considered in cases involving family members and violent admissions. Authorities have also not said whether Crosson had access to any prior support services or whether warning signs were present before the fatal incident.
Neighbors in the area were not immediately identified, and police have not released information about whether anyone else was inside the home at the time of the stabbing.
The Houston Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to gather evidence, review the suspect’s background, and determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
Anyone with additional information related to the case has been encouraged to contact HPD, though officials noted that no suspects remain outstanding.
