Lawmakers Push Epstein Files Vote As Pressure Mounts On Trump’s Campaign Promises

President Donald Trump is facing growing pressure from both parties as lawmakers prepare a rare bipartisan move to force the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The effort targets one of Trump’s major 2024 campaign promises, and analysts say the political fallout is tightening around him.

A group of House members is organizing a discharge petition that would compel a vote on releasing the documents. Trump has worked hard to prevent that vote, even as recently unsealed records raised new questions about his past ties to Epstein and challenged public claims made by both Trump and Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

Progressive commentator Brian Tyler Cohen addressed the escalating situation on the latest episode of his podcast, “No Lies.” He said the political environment around Trump has shifted sharply. “The walls are very clearly closing in on Trump,” Cohen said. “For the first time that I can remember, there are full-blown public defections.”

Several Republicans have signaled they intend to vote in favor of releasing the files next week. Trump also faces criticism from within his own base, including public pushback from Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie. Their remarks mark an unusual moment of open dissent from lawmakers who have long aligned themselves with him.

Cohen argued that Trump’s refusal to support the release has put him in an especially vulnerable position. “Donald Trump is doing the absolute worst politics by fighting the release of the files when he specifically positioned himself as the guy who would undo this deep state cabal,” he said. Cohen added that Trump’s stance raises even more questions. “Or maybe it’s the second-worst politics, suggesting that whatever is in the files is even worse than what he’s dealing with right now.”

The push for disclosure is gaining momentum across party lines. For many lawmakers, releasing the Epstein records is seen as a matter of accountability and transparency, particularly because Trump himself once vowed to expose everyone connected to the case.

That campaign pledge is now being used to corner him politically. Cohen said the bipartisan pressure leaves Trump with limited options. “Either way, it looks like, despite Trump’s best efforts, we are about to find out as both Democrats and Republicans look to make good on the Trump administration’s own promise of exposing everybody involved in the most notorious pedophile ring in American history,” he added.

As the House prepares to act, observers say the vote could become a turning point. It may test Trump’s influence within his party and shape the political narrative as both sides brace for what the documents may reveal.
