Erin Burnett Confronts Ex-Trump Lawyer Over Contradictions in Epstein Files

CNN anchor Erin Burnett looked genuinely startled Thursday night as she pressed Trump attorney Ty Cobb on the latest revelations tied to President Donald Trump’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The exchange followed the House Oversight Committee’s release of tens of thousands of documents connected to the Epstein case, many of which challenge earlier public claims about Trump’s ties to Epstein.

Among the most striking contradictions are statements from Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. During a summer interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Maxwell insisted she never saw Trump at any of Epstein’s properties.

Newly released emails directly conflict with that claim, suggesting that accounts offered by both Maxwell and Trump may not align with the newly uncovered evidence. Burnett highlighted that Blanche never questioned Maxwell further on her statement.

She said this stood out as a major oversight, especially given the weight of the materials that have now emerged. “There are many things in here to question, but that one just punches you in the face,” Burnett said. “Direct conflict with her statement to Blanche.

He did not follow up with her. And he says today that that’s because law enforcement didn’t have the materials that Epstein’s estate hid for years. He said it was only just provided to Congress.” Burnett then turned to Cobb and asked whether Blanche’s explanation made sense. “Does that excuse add up?” she asked.

Cobb did not hesitate. “No, it doesn’t add up at all,” he said, calling the rationale implausible. He added that it was “hard to imagine” that investigators had not already obtained the documents during earlier searches of Epstein’s computers and phones, raising questions about how such materials could have remained hidden until now.

The exchange underscored how the new document release is already reshaping the public conversation around the Epstein case. Much of the scrutiny now centers on inconsistencies between previously known accounts and what the files appear to show. For investigators and lawmakers, the disclosures may reopen lines of inquiry that once seemed settled.

For the public, they add yet another layer of uncertainty to a case long clouded by secrecy, speculation, and influential names. As the materials continue to be reviewed, more contradictions may surface. For now, the discrepancies already identified have placed renewed attention on Trump’s past statements, Maxwell’s testimony, and the thoroughness of earlier investigative efforts. Burnett’s sharp reaction reflected what many observers are now wondering: how much more information was overlooked, and why.
