Illinois Dad Allegedly Killed Infant, Then Propped Body in Stroller as if Sleeping

A Chicago man has been arrested and charged in the death of a two-month-old boy who died earlier this year, police announced this week. Anthony Evans, 23, is now facing a felony murder charge in connection with the April death of baby Kayson Flowers.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Kayson died from multiple injuries consistent with child abuse. His death was ruled a homicide following the examination. Chicago police said Evans was taken into custody on Monday, several months after the fatal incident, and is charged with “One (1) felony count – Murder – Strong Probability Death/Injury.”

The baby’s mother, Kayla Flowers, spoke through tears in an interview with ABC7 in May, recalling the moment she discovered her son was unresponsive. “My son didn’t deserve that. He was only 2 months, 2 months. He can’t fight back,” she said. “This is heartbreaking for me seeing my child in that condition.”

Kayla said Kayson had been in the care of someone else for more than a week before she picked him up on April 28. She was told he was asleep in his car seat as she prepared to take him home. “Me, not thinking anything of it, because it was raining, I just took my baby to the house, because I didn’t want my child to get sick,” she said.

“So, when I went into the house, I uncovered the stroller in the car seat, and my baby was lifeless.” Kayson was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that day. The family said doctors told them the infant had likely been deceased for six to eight hours before he was brought in, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Kayla has remained vocal about her pursuit of accountability. “I want justice for my son,” she said. “I’m not going to rest until I get justice.”

The investigation continued for months as authorities worked to determine who was responsible for the child’s injuries. With Evans now in custody, prosecutors will move forward with the case as the Flowers family waits for answers.
