A 39-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder after a man’s naked body was discovered inside a room at a Holiday Inn near Miami International Airport last year. Elizabeth Hernandez was arrested last week and now faces charges of first-degree murder, grand theft, and fraudulent use of a credit card, according to Miami-Dade court records.
Investigators said Miami Springs Police responded to the Holiday Inn Miami International Airport at 1111 South Royal Poinciana Boulevard on June 20, 2024, after hotel staff found the body of 43-year-old Jason Durrell Anderson. A maintenance worker had entered room 420 to repair a telephone line and discovered Anderson’s body, unresponsive and hidden under the bed.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced Anderson dead at the scene. An arrest warrant detailed that hotel surveillance footage showed Anderson arriving at the property with a man and a woman, later identified as Hernandez. The video also captured Hernandez and the unidentified man leaving the hotel later that night, carrying multiple bags, including one plastic bag that appeared to contain bed sheets or towels.
The male companion was seen wearing different clothes than before—possibly Anderson’s. Investigators found blood stains on a hallway wall and the bathroom door frame. The medical examiner determined Anderson had suffered blunt force trauma, facial lacerations, and apparent bite marks. Hemorrhaging in his neck area indicated possible strangulation.
Authorities said that after Anderson’s death, his debit card was used several times across Miami-Dade County. Surveillance footage from those locations showed Hernandez and the same man using the card. Anderson’s account, which had contained about $6,000, was completely drained by June 24—just four days after his death.
Hernandez was also arrested in July on a separate charge of grand theft of a vehicle and has remained in custody without bond since then. Police believe robbery was a possible motive in the killing, but the investigation remains open.
The arrest warrant did not specify whether the unidentified man seen in the video had been located or charged in connection with Anderson’s death. No record of his arrest appears in Miami-Dade court or jail logs. Authorities described the crime scene as particularly violent and disturbing, with investigators recovering key forensic evidence that ultimately linked Hernandez to the killing. If convicted, Hernandez could face life in prison without parole.
