A Texas man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend during a violent confrontation outside her home early Friday morning.
Police in Laredo identified the suspect as 20-year-old Christian Alejandro Fonseca. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal trespass, and harassment, according to the Laredo Police Department.
Authorities said officers were dispatched to the 100 block of St. Pierre Lane at about 1:48 a.m. on October 10 following a report of a stabbing. “The caller had indicated that it was a known male, a person she had previously been in a relationship with, who is now an ex-boyfriend,” said Laredo Police Department spokesperson Joe Baeza in a statement to People.
“The person was allegedly outside of the residence jumping on the hood of the current boyfriend’s vehicle.” Police said the woman’s current boyfriend went outside to confront Fonseca, leading to a heated altercation. During the confrontation, Fonseca allegedly stabbed the man and then tried to force his way into the woman’s home.
After the attack, Fonseca fled the scene on foot but was arrested a short distance away by responding officers. Investigators said Fonseca already had an active criminal trespass warning that prohibited him from being near his ex-girlfriend’s residence. His presence at the property, therefore, violated that order in addition to the violent assault.
The victim, who has not been publicly identified, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated for stab wounds, according to police. Fonseca was booked into Webb County Jail, where he remained held without bond as of Sunday, The Tampa Free Press reported. It remains unclear whether he has obtained legal representation.
The incident marks another case of domestic-related violence in Laredo, where police have recently urged residents to report threats or harassment before they escalate into physical attacks. Officials said the quick response of officers helped prevent further harm in this case, noting that Fonseca was apprehended within minutes of the call.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the confrontation or how long Fonseca and the woman had been separated prior to the incident. Police continue to investigate the stabbing and are expected to forward the case to the Webb County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
The Laredo Police Department emphasized that domestic violence situations can quickly turn dangerous and encouraged anyone experiencing harassment or threats from a partner or ex-partner to seek help immediately.
