“Stop Before You Kill Me”: Florida Man Arrested After Brutal Attack on Girlfriend with Baseball Bat

A Florida man is behind bars after police say he brutally attacked his longtime girlfriend with a wooden baseball bat, leaving her with severe head injuries that may require surgery. According to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News, 51-year-old Jamie Michael Lane was taken into custody on Tuesday following the violent incident at a home in Homestead.

Authorities said Lane and the victim, who have been in a relationship for seven years and lived together for four, had been arguing throughout the day. The situation escalated when the victim refused to answer Lane’s phone calls. Police said he drove to the residence angry and began knocking on the door.

When she would not let him in, he allegedly kicked the door open and entered the bedroom armed with a wooden bat. Investigators said Lane struck the woman three times, once in the forehead, once in the back of the head, and once in her left arm as she tried to shield herself.

The arrest report states that during the attack, the victim pleaded, “Stop before you kill me.” At that moment, officers said Lane suddenly stopped, dropped to his knees, and began praying and asking for forgiveness before fleeing the home, according to a report by local independent TV station WPLG.

The victim was rushed to Baptist Health Homestead Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a left frontal hematoma and possible skull or facial fractures. She was also evaluated by a neurosurgeon, who confirmed she may have a blood clot that could require surgery.

Police noted that a witness corroborated the victim’s account of the assault. A search warrant later led officers to recover the bat, which appeared to have broken during the attack. Lane turned himself in to authorities the following day and is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

The shocking case has left the local community shaken, with many expressing concern over the severity of the violence. While the victim continues to undergo medical treatment, authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and further charges could be filed.
