A Texas mother stands accused of repeatedly stabbing her nine-year-old son to death in his bed. Wilma Jamitza Medina, 50, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder of a person under ten years old for allegedly killing her son, David Ogbevbon Ehanire-Medina.
Universal City police officers responded to a home near San Antonio in the early hours of September 3rd. Upon arrival, they found a young boy suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency personnel provided life-saving treatment before rushing him to a hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.
Police Chief Johnny Siemens called the crime heinous. “Crimes like this shock your conscience, rock you to your core,” he said during a press briefing. “You can’t unsee some of the stuff that you see, and you can’t understand why it would happen.”
Detective Sergeant David Faust described the scene as devastating for first responders. “What they found when they arrived is that a father was trying to prevent the mother of the child from getting back to him after she had potentially stabbed him multiple times,” Faust stated.
Authorities reported finding the father holding onto his wife’s legs. Her shirt was covered in blood. The boy was unresponsive in his bed with visible stab wounds on his neck. While securing the scene, Medina allegedly stabbed herself in the leg.
She was allegedly yelling, “I cannot live without him,” and “let me die.” Officers eventually wrestled the weapon from her. The father, identified as an officer with the China Grove Police Department, told investigators he heard a scream from his son’s room after returning from a night shift.
Forcing the locked door open, he allegedly found his son’s bloody body being held by Medina with one arm. In her other hand, she allegedly held a knife, which she reportedly used to stab herself in the chest. The man struggled with his wife for the knife. She allegedly told him, “This is what you want.”
Medina was transported to a hospital where she spoke to investigators. She told them she believed she was being “followed” and claimed people were on her roof. She reportedly stated she believed her son was being hurt at school, allegedly adding, “There’s no going back.”
In a subsequent call with family, Medina referred to herself as “trash” in Spanish and expressed shame. Medina was booked into the Bexar County Jail and is being held on a six hundred thousand dollar bond.
